Elixir Guitar Strings Acoustic Light
What’s wrong with my guitar strings?
I just bought my third acoustic guitar, Takamine g406s and I strung it with the Elixir Nanoweb Bronze 80/20 extra light strings. They sound amazing and stay in tune longer, but it gets on my nerves that sometimes they make this screeching noise if my nail barely hits a string, and they seem to buzz at times even when I’m fretting them down.
Also, I have petite fingers so that’s why I bought the extra light gauge, but it seems that the strings are cutting my fingers up..and I’m not doing any fast playing or slides, just the normal.
So am I just getting use to the strings, or what?
Also, I heard the the Phosphor Bronze strings that they don’t seem to make screeching sounds when fretted, but that they aren’t as good on your frets as the bronze are. So please help.
Im not really sure what a calibration is, but it sounds to me like your neck is starting to bend backwards a little. The strings pull the neck forwards and there is a truss rod in your neck that counters the tension. This needs to be adjusted from time to time. Maybe thats what the other guy is referring to as a calibration? Well, its basic maintenance and should be adjusted every 3-6 months. If you don’t know how to do it, I would advise taking it to any guitar store with a tech on hand and get a setup.
Just keep in mind that a setup typically involves a string change. I know the strings you put on aren’t cheap… but you may lose them. Try asking the tech if he can just turn the truss rod for you for a nominal fee. He will probably give the guitar a once over as well.
