Guitar Strings Lettered
Just got a bass guitar and need help!!!?
i recently got a squire (by fender) 5 string bass guitar. i’ve been reading tab and when i play the song it doesn’t sound right.
1. i don’t have an amp (yet)
2. i cant tell which strings are which letters.
i know the thickest is a B…but the others confuse me. i play an E as if it were the next thickest (thickeston a 4 string). if the problem is that i dont have an amp…please let me know, if it’s the strings then please tell me (in order from thickest to thin) of the notes. E A G D

why not tune your 5 string bass to E-A-D-G-B just to start, you can always re-tune it. If you’re reading TAB and its tab for a 4 string bass, it’ll make more sense.
