Guitar Strings Installation

Installing humbucker covers to guitar?
hi, I was considering installing these, http://www.guitarcenter.com/ProLine-Humbucker-Pickup-Cover-2-Pack-100240952-i1170592.gc ,humbucker covers to my epiphone special II to give it a cooler look and trebley tone. I looked up the procedure for installing them and it looked fairly easy, although I’ve never had any guitar modding experience I have some experience with soldering and I think I can do this. However one concern I have is the tension of the neck. The installation of both covers will take an hour or more and I I’ve heard that leaving a guitar without strings for long is not good, is there anyway to get past this? or will it be ok for that long without strings, also any tips on the installation would be helpful, thanks!
I’ve installed a lot of pickup covers and the main thing is top make sure the holes in the cover line up good with the pole pieces on the pickup. While they are pretty much universal there can still be slight differences. As far as getting more trebley tone, that usually doesn’t happen. There will be little if any change to the tone except for maybe smoothing it out a little. As far as leaving the strings off that should’t be a problem.Sometimes I have to leave strings off for days at a time and never have any problems because of it. After all thats what a trussrod is for, keeping the neck stable. Hopefully you have access to a bench vise, this helps a lot. Keep the cover deep in the vice so it doesn’t warp or bend out on you and you should have no problems. Good luck.
