How often should guitar strings break?
I have been playing guitar for about a month now. I am using an old Ibanez Roadstar II from the 80s. The person who gave it to me barely played it and it almost looks new. I just had it set up at the local music store and in a week i have broken the high E string and B string. Is this normal?
It happens all the time. Playing at standard tuning and bending a lot or changing your tuning will weaken strings over time. If you continue having issues, you should lubricate the friction points on your guitar (saddle, nut, string tree). I use 10′s and break strings less than I did with 9′s. I also don’t strum as hard as I did when I was younger.
