Guitar string problems…?

OK my first problem is once I was tuning my guitar, a string broke, it hit my, now i’m scared as hell to tune my guitar and I realy need to tune it. Any ideas on how to make me feel safer tuning my guitar?
Second off i’m using strings that came with my new guitar a few weeks ago. The bronze coated 4 bottom strings looked darker than usual is this a sign of anything that might affect my tone at all?
Thanks
To the girl that says i don’t know how to tune a guitar. People have strings break all the time when tuning. I’ve been taking guitar class in school even my teachers breaks them once in a while when she helps us tune.

Breaking guitar strings is very normal when you play a guitar. Be sure that you are not tuning over pitch. If you are putting too much tension on the strings, it is not good for the guitar neck and can lead to broken strings. String replacement is no problem at all. You can take your guitar to any good music store and their guitar people will usually change your strings for you while you wait. After playing your guitar, it is a good idea to wipe the strings off with a clean rag. The discoloration you see is normal. As strings age they become “dead” and sound thumpy and are hard to tune as well. I change strings at least every week or so, but I play professionally and I have to keep my guitar sounding it’s best. Here is an online tutorial on how to change your own strings .http://guitar.about.com/library/weekly/aachangingstringsa.htm Be sure to buy the correct guage strings for your guitar. Any good guitar shop can help you select some good sounding strings for your instrument. Hope this helps!
