best guitar strings for metal music
what is the best bass guitar brand?

I have had 2 ibanez’s one 4, and one 5 string, i sold my 5 a while ago, and the 4 isnt cutting it, i like the sound from ibanez, but i believe there is a better guitar out there. i play mostly metal, but would like one that i could get good pop and slap as well as metal- or to sum it up… i would like to play a guitar that can handle all of Les Claypools music. i am sure that for playing southern rock you could use the crappiest piecxe of crap lol… any info on this would be great! i am looking to spend about $400 – $500 if a little more im sure i could get it… guitar center has good deals- usually about 150 off market price so any ideas would rock!!!

A few brands to look into:

Fender: Their Jazz basses are pretty much a classic, and that’s because they’re so versatile. You can get almost any tone of of them with the right EQ adjustment. Their Precisions are also great for Punk/Rock, but not much else – their tone isn’t very flexible.

Ibanez: Sounds like you already have some experience with them, but they’re another great option. Check out one of their Soundgear basses – the SR300, SR400 and SR500 should fit right into your price range (there are also 5-string versions of those, and a 6-string SR500). Their higher-end basses are made of some really nice woods (Mahogany, Maple, etc.), and from the SR500 and upward, they come with sweet-sounding Bartolini pickups (some of the best you can get). It might be a bit harder to learn popping and slapping on these, because of the relatively close string-spacing, but you just need to learn to mute strings well.

Schecter: Besides Ibanez, they make some of the best mid-priced basses. Check out their Stilleto Custom, Studio and Elite models; they should fit right into your price range. Some of their basses have laquer-finished necks, which some people don’t like; try them first to make sure =P

Traben: These are also good mid-priced basses. For the price, they have pretty nice tone. The tone & sustain is enhanced by Traben’s custom bridges. The extra metal makes these basses pretty heavy, so buy a really good strap =)

Those are some of your best options for that price range. The most important thing to do though is play the basses yourself.
Head down to a music store with a few in mind, and try playing each of them for a while. Find which one sounds the best, feels the best, and suits your needs the best – then you’ll be set =)

Hope you find what you’re looking for.
Cheers! ^_^
